The Chateaux and Gastronomy of the Loire Valley
with Huon Mallalieu and Bill Knott
3rd October-10th October, 2014

Huon Mallalieu, Bill Knott and James Pembroke have put together a trip to the Loire Valley, the soul of La Douce France. No other region in France has such a happy combination of history, food and wine, and we have chosen to go at the time of the vendange.

Based in the heart of the Loire Valley, Oldie trip-goers will be visiting all the nearby famous sites but at a quiet time of year. So, you can look forward to guided tours of Chenonceaux, Azay-Le-Rideau, Tours, Chambord and Valencay, as well as a trip to Bourges to see the splendours of the cathedral.

You will be staying at Chateau de Noizay (www.chateaudenoizay.com), a very sumptuous 16th century chateau and member of the Relais and Chateaux since 1992. This beautiful chateau, situated just 20 minutes from Tours, has 19 bedrooms and a swimming pool. Maintaining our house party ethos, we will have breakfast and dinner in our own private dining room where we will sample the cuisine of renowned chef, Frédéric Collin.

To reserve a place, please send a deposit for £500 (made payable to Oldie Publications) to James Pembroke, The Oldie, 65 Newman St, London W1T 3EG. The full price of the trip is £1595 and the outstanding balance is to be paid by three months before the trip. If you have any enquiries, please email me on publisher@theoldie.co.uk or call 0207 436 8801.

Robert and Marianne Fox have enjoyed many holidays staying with Donatella Cinelli Colombini (www.cinellicolombini.it) at her farmhouse hotel near Siena. Her estate has its own winery and restaurant in which we will have our own private room. The tour will be a mixture of Tuscany’s great gardens including Villa Cetinale and Villa dei Geggiano, as well as its towns of Siena, Montalcino and Monte Olivetto. And there will be Sunday lunch at the famous butcher's restaurant of Dario Cecchini, in Panzano, one of Europe’s greatest gastronomic experiences.

Each trip is priced at £1,595 per person including accommodation (whether you are in a double or single room), all meals, aperitives at the villa, unlimited wine at lunch and dinner.

You just need to buy your own BA flights and the odd coffee and drink. We are not going to make any extra charge for single rooms, despite the extra cost to us, because that just feels wrong.

If you decide you would like to come, simply send a deposit for £595 (made payable to Oldie Publications) to: Oldie Trips Abroad 2014, Oldie Publications, 90 Walcot St, Bath BA1 5BG, and we will acknowledge receipt. Please don't buy your flights until we write to you to tell you we have the critical break-even number of guests. If we don’t, I will refund your deposit cheque in full. We will know by October 1st, at the latest.

If you have any questions, please call Hannah Donovan on 020 7436 8801 or email her on editorial@theoldie.co.uk
