Paul Bailey

Paul Bailey's first novel At the Jerusalem was published in 1967. He has written eleven other works of fiction, including Gabriel's Lament, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, Uncle Rudolf and Chapman's Odyssey. He has written two volumes of memoirs and was the authorised biographer of Cynthia Payne, the suburban brothel-keeper who died recently. He was a frequent broadcaster on BBC Radio 3 and 4 for thirty-five years. He is now the happily occupied theatre critic of the Oldie.
