There was little likelihood that anyone but Andy Murray was going to be chosen as the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year in 2015, but we should spare a thought for Chris Froome, the first British rider in history to win the Tour de France twice. The Tour is perhaps the toughest endurance race there is. And not only has Froome won it twice: he was also absolutely vital in making sure that his team-mate Bradley Wiggins won the 2012 Tour. Yet of the one million votes cast for the award, Froome gained just under four per cent, securing a paltry sixth place.
