The Danes have taken back control – without leaving the EU. By Mary Kenny

One thing that’s difficult to find in Denmark, I noticed on a recent visit to Copenhagen, is an EU flag. The red-and-white Danish flag (said to be the world’s oldest) is displayed everywhere, and Ukrainian flags are plentiful. But no sight of the blue and gold stars of the European Union. ‘EU flags are very rare – they play no role in the national narrative,’ said a senior parliamentary adviser, Nicolai Svejgaard Poulsen, at Borgen (the Christiansborg Palace from where the Danish government operates). ‘Danes have never been big fans of the EU. We don’t feel that emotionally attached.’ ...
