Adam Nicolson spoke at The Oldie Literary Lunch yesterday about his book Bird School: A Beginner in the Wood, saying that he wasn’t a nature writer at heart. He wrote his latest book to warn the people who don’t care about nature about the terrible decrease of the bird population. He was particularly keen to convert one attendee at the lunch, Peter York, author of The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook, who told Adam before the lunch, ‘I’m not interested in nature.’
