Running alongside the Hudson River, the West Side Highway is an eight lane expressway running the entire length of Manhattan island. During lockdown it has a fraction of the usual volume of traffic. In the distance, the Freedom Tower (officially known as One World Trade Center) stands close to the site of the fallen Twin Towers brought down in the 9/11 atrocity. The new building was designed by David Childs. Construction started in 2006 and it opened in 2014. It stands at 1,776ft, cost $3.9bn, and has 94 floors with 5 below ground.
