This photograph shows the view looking west from Broome Street towards the Holland Tunnel, which connects lower Manhattan to New Jersey. The 4-lane tunnel is 8,558 ft long westbound and 8,371 ft eastbound. Cars pay $16 eastbound only to enter Manhattan. Only a few weeks ago, the junction would have been heaving with excess traffic coming from all directions - incessant horns blowing, aggressive chaos, requiring police traffic management. The billboards are no longer changed. And other vast billboard sites are empty - unheard of - another data point revealing a stalling economy, as advertising is universally rowed back amid the uncertainty.
