Biting prose: Howard Jacobson
This week’s Oldie pin-up is novelist and journalist Howard Jacobson, who turned 83 on 25th August.
Self-described as the 'Jewish Jane Austen', he is well-known for his discussions – often humorous, sometimes provocative – of the Jewish experience in Britain.
His most recent novel, Howl, tells of a Jewish primary school headmaster who can't quite tell whether it is himself or the world that has lost its mind. You can read Tanya Gold's review here.
In 2010, Jacobson's novel The Finkler Question was the first comic novel to win the Booker Prize since Kinglsey Amis's The Old Devils in 1986.
