In 1984, sentenced to a life imprisonment, James struggled to come to terms with the enormity of his crimes. He was released in 2004 after serving 20 years. In prison, with the help of a psychologist he managed to transform his life and go on to become a regular columnist for the Guardian and author of multiple books.
