James Reed, the Chairman and CEO of Reed, Britain’s biggest recruitment brand, talked about his new book, Karma Capitalism: Why being a good business is good business.
He said he wasn’t allowed to include the question, ‘What are the most-used search words on YouTube?’, in the Korean version of his book – because they feared it was rude. It turns out that the answer is ‘How to…’ – as in ‘How to fix a flat tyre’ etc.
James told the story of his Damascene conversion, halfway up the Matterhorn, dangling from a rope with a broken leg as he turned 50. The impressive doctor who choppered in said to him, ‘Would you like to speak in Italian, German, French or English?’
It was his ‘wake-up fall’, he said. He determined to devote more and more of his company’s efforts to philanthropy.
